For the Thoughtful

Gifts

Never expected, never part of what we agree on — and never forgotten. If you enjoy giving, this is what I actually love.

First, the only thing that matters

A gift is not part of our arrangement and never will be. It buys nothing, changes nothing about what we have agreed, and its absence is invisible to me — most of the gentlemen I see best have never brought a thing. This page exists for the opposite reason: some of you enjoy giving and would rather not guess. So here is the guessing removed.

How something reaches me

Three ways, in the order I would suggest them. All of them keep your name and my address out of a third party’s database.

  1. 01

    A digital gift card

Bought from the house directly, delivered to my email in a minute. Nothing ships, nothing is stored, and it works whether I am in Denver or on a mountain that week. This is the one I would pick.

  2. 02

    In person

Brought to a dinner or left on the table afterwards. Flowers, a bottle, something small you saw and thought of me — the version I remember longest, because you chose it in front of me.

  3. 03

    Through my concierge

For anything larger, or anything that needs a size, ask me and I will introduce you to the person who handles purchases and delivery on my behalf. You deal with them, not with a shipping form.

What I love

Houses rather than specific items, so you can choose within them. Where a house has a gift card, its name links straight to it.

Flowers

Peonies, white roses, hydrangeas. Both of these are Denver houses and both deliver, though I would rather you walked in with them than had them sent — the arriving is most of the gift. Zalea keeps peonies in season; Newberry Brothers has been doing this since 1950.

The wardrobe

I dress for the evening we are having, and I like having more range to do it with. Gift cards here are close to perfect: they let me buy the piece for the occasion rather than the piece someone imagined months earlier.

Lingerie & hosiery

Beautifully made, structured, black or deep red before anything else. My clothing size is below; a bra size is the one thing it will not tell you, so for anything built around one, ask — or send the card and let me handle the fitting.

Jewellery & horology

I have moved from fast fashion to things that last, which is a nicer way of saying I have expensive taste and no hurry. Gold over silver. Classic over clever. Something I can wear every day without thinking about it.

Travel & the mountains

I am in Aspen, Vail and Telluride often enough that a night somewhere beautiful is never wasted on me. The Little Nell and the St. Regis are the two I keep going back to. Hotel credit, airline credit, or simply a room for a weekend you would like me to spend somewhere with you.

Wellness

The unglamorous half of looking the way I do. Studio classes, a treatment, the right clothes for it. Practical, used immediately, and quietly one of the more thoughtful things to give.

Sizes

So you never have to ask, and so nothing has to go back. Womenswear sizing disagrees with itself across countries, so the equivalents are here too — where a house disagrees with this chart, trust the house and ask me.

A few specifics

  • Nothing engraved or monogrammed with my name. Discretion runs in both directions, and it is the one gift I cannot travel with
  • Champagne over wine; blanc de blancs or a good rosé
  • Black, ivory and deep red. Gold, never silver
  • Warm fragrance — amber, oud, fig. Nothing aquatic
  • A note in your own handwriting outlasts the thing it arrived with. I have kept every one

Or, instead of any of it

A donation in my name to a cause that protects women who have less choice than I do is a gift I will thank you for more warmly than a handbag. Tell me you did it and I will not ask for the amount.

Why there is no wishlist link here

You will notice this page sends you to the houses themselves and never to a wishlist platform. That is deliberate. Those services sit between us, take a cut from you, hold my details in a database I do not control, and have a documented habit of both leaking that data and closing accounts like mine without notice. A gift card and a dinner reservation need none of them.
